G'day there, and thanks for visiting. We are well into winter now, and I hope you are weathering it all OK if you live in Oz! I've been busy with the local gigs, but as ever, there's a bunch of other stuff to tell you about as well, so I'll get on with it, see ya at the end!
2009 So Far.............................
I finished my playing commitments 'down south' in back April, it was great to get back to playing the electric (and acoustic) guitar for some other artists (both live and in the studio), and I wish them well, particularly Sarah Tindley, aiden nolan, Ava Baree, Stephen Lightbody, and I'm also especially looking forward to working as often as possible with (the Wollongong guys') bassist Lawrence Davis, and vocalist MickonWheels, after the great and memorable gigs with those guys in the first half of this year on a semi-regular basis.
Fine talents all, and thank you!! In the meantime, I was able to get back to a few of my own projects, in between our visitors!
New CD Available October................
I've done plenty of local solo work for the last few months, and as mentioned previously, I've finished a track for the next CD, it's one of the Phil Doherty songs I've been playing for a while. "Man of The Road" was recorded, mixed and mastered at Ernie Van Veen's place in the ACT, and also features Ernie on a beautiful and haunting Dobro solo. I've also got some gigs with Ernie later in the year!
I know, I know … I've been mentioning the new CD for ages, and we will get it out this year. I've just about settled on a track listing, which includes a John J. Francis song, a couple of Phil Doherty originals, plus a few new songs he and I have been putting some time in together on. I've found a great studio locally (founded by the late Russell Dunlop, see below) to record the band tracks.
You can expect an absolute flotilla of guests on this next CD, which will be something of a tribute to the many great musicians I've been fortunate enough to have played with over the years, and it'll be along the same lines as 'Transit Lounge' in its acoustic/electric track format. I'll keep you posted as to our progress, although the below paragraph will explain why I don't expect to record before August…
Vale Russell Dunlop.......................
Owing to the very sad and recent death of Russell Dunlop, we have re-scheduled our recording time-frame, and I'm now looking at August to finish the CD. The Nashua Road Studio's co-founders are Jim Kelly and Les Dorahy, with Jim's son Ben on the desk.
Russell was a great guy, player & engineer, very well-known in the industry, and a great loss to the music itself. RIP Russell Dunlop.
We Still Gotta Roll On..............!!
Please check out the gigs pages, there's some cool stuff coming up, and apart from the solo gigs, there's a Wards Xress show at this years Gympie Muster, also some more band stuff down south in Sydney, Wollongong, the ACT and further southern reaches throughout October and November.
We'll also have a bit more information on the Sydney Blues Festival which will be held in Windsor (Syd) in October, the previously-mentioned gigs with Ernie Van Veen, plus The Xpress is primed and oiled to steam into the year!!
We Really Would Like To See Y'all Soon...!!
Many thanks for your continued support and interest, and till next time, keep enjoyin' the music.
Cheers,
RW
