G'day there and welcome back to our home in cyber-space! As most have predicted, we are indeed in the middle of a what's going to be a long, hot summer at the start of 2010. I hope you had a great xmas and new year period, and as ever, its probably worth a quick re-cap of some of our musical highlights from 2009, along with what's already happening for 2010. As we head into a new decade, I'm personally looking forward to the challenges ahead, which includes our recent relocation back to Sydney!!
Lots Of Fun During 2009.........................................
'09 was indeed a busy year on many levels! While I continued on with the Northern Rivers and SE Qld solo gigs occupying so much of my time, we also had some very memorable shows with the band at the Gympie Muster, the first Sydney Blues Festival, and capped off our touring year with Oct/Nov's 'Man Of The Road' Tour, which took in some 24 shows over 28 days, and ran throughout large portions of NSW and into Victoria. It was also a year where I was called on to do some session work, and there were releases by Aussie ex-pat aiden nolan, Brissy 3-piece vocal outfit Ava Baree and a fine EP from Mick On Wheels & Lawrence Davis' blues-rock band, 'Roll With It'.
Roll With It Again In 2010......................................
I'm looking forward to working again this year with Wollongong
blues-rock outfit 'Roll With It', after a string a well-received gigs with the guys last year. The debut EP is well worth persuing, and has been picking up some very fine reviews and airplay, prior to the official launch date of 'One Day At A Time' (the CD's title). I'll let y'all know when thats on, but in the meantime, we are looking forward to the Wards Xpress and RW solo gigs that are listed hereabouts on the
gigs page, including some festivals and other 'showcase'-type gigs we got coming up in the next few months, with a lot more live gigs planned around the Newcastle, Sydney, ACT and Wollongong areas.
Southbound Freight.................................................
After 16 years on the Northern Rivers of NSW, we've decided to move back home to Sydney. Our youngest has been offered a great opportunity to work there, so we've packed up and moved south to help her out for a year or two, and the move also gives us the opportunity to take a bit more work in from the local music scene here. I've still retained much of the work I had up north, and I've got a few return trips planned. We've got a lot of fond memories and great friends in and around Byron, and we won't be letting those slip! On the other hand, we are quite excited at the prospect of living and working in the city, and as Phil D says, 'paradise is in your heart and soul…'.
